Hi! I loved Christmas in July! Great shows!
Also loved the pix of Yellowstone. I went there in 1993 - where I learned to ski, believe it or not, but I discovered I prefer snowmobiling. I'd love to go back there or someday, live out there.

Question: why, on satellite radio, a subscriber only service, do we have to hear so many commercials, especially on channel 164? I listen so I can hear radio as it used to be, with all vintage commercials. It can be distracting to hear about the latest diet program or how to be debt free. I would like to hear more of Greg's commentary or maybe some old interviews of radio stars, and less advertising. I do appreciate the channel and Greg very much.

As we speak, I am watching Jack Benny's much poked at film "The Horn Blows at Midnight" on TCM. Shhhhh I am watching it in my office. I have to tell you, it is a pretty funny movie. Why was the movie the butt of so many jokes. I am guessing it did poorly at the Box Office. Any insight on this Greg?

I wanted to add to my last comment that the Christmas schedule was great last week. I really liked the idea of mixing the regular programs in so that it wasn't completely Christmas. Since my day starts at 5:00am I listen in regularly. We break for 121, 151, 34 so that there is more variety while you have some comedies that I don't care too much for. I'm also glad for the ability to download the programs from old time readio downloads. Your doing a great job. I know that it is a lot of work.

I agree with you about John Dehner! He is very good; no matter what he played, he was unique and I enjoyed him very much. I especialy liked him in "Paladin." So you may play more of him anytime.

As much as I like Red Skelton...lots of his movies on TCM this week...this week's AVALON TIME show is pretty lame and does not stand the test of time. These jokes actually killed vaudeville. As a kid in the 50s, watching Red Skelton on TV was a weekly requirement, so hearing this show hits a nerve and makes me wince!

But, anyway, Greg, I enjoy XM164!

Red Skelton can't hold a stick to Jack Benny. Jack's jokes make me laugh 50-60-70 years after his shows aired, (and I am 50) where as Red's jokes I have to think a bit before I get it. Having said that, Red Skelton was a fine comedian and a great American.

Great Blog site Greg. I love hearing from other people who enjoy OTR as I do, but this Gravatar is a BUST for 70% of your Bloggers. There must be a IT person on XM's staff that can solve this problem.

I agree about Red Skelton. He was a very visual comedian and I don't think his work translated well over radio. It is funny how some programs hold up to this very day and others fall far short of the mark. Jack Benny stands high abouve most others, as well as Fibber Magee and Molly. Great writing!!!!!! On the other hand, I can't even listen to Abbott & Castello. They are way too cornball for me.

Thanks for the compromise on Christmas in July. It was very nice to have some options. Thanks for the memories )))))))

Don't quite agree with the notion that Mr. Skelton's comedy was too visual. Sure, his pantomime's wouldn't work...His timing was impeccable and while it may not have been as suited as say, Mr. Benny's...you didn't have to watch the Guzzler's gin or any sketch by the Mean widdle kid, Clem, San fernando, or any of his dozens of other characters to get it. Isn't that why radio is the theatre of the mind? I still picture Mr. Conrad as he was in the TV show, Cannon or Jake and the Fatman...a far cry from Gunsmoke...and if you look at some of the photos of the other voice actors, they really didn't fit the bill of who they were playing...but it didnt' matter. They were pictured in my mind.
So not being able to see Mr. Skelton didn't detract for me. I had the honest to God pleasure of meeting him years ago and he was as genuine and nice in person as anyone would hope...and his talents were just as viable on the radio as any other comedian.

Like designers are forced to design stuff within the limited code available and not go beyond it, their innovation is somewhat limited but still I think Web Design won't die! I agree that Amazon and other some big sites won't have a blog but now a days it's very important to have some sort of option available so people can quickly communicate their thoughts. I think Amazon if wants to shift it to that, they can get a customized CMS for themselves.
