I'm Back!

by gregbell 8/22/2009 1:37:00 PM

First of all; I want to thank Kenny Curtis of Kids Place Live for filling in for me while I took a week off. I also want to thank Craig Ferguson of the CBS Late Late Show.

While most of you were very kind in your comments; I do take some issue with the folks who felt the two of them were not knowlegable enough about the shows on the channel. What I do is very specialized and it is unfair to hold Kenny and Craig up to the standard I set as the host of the channel.

Kenny's job was to keep the channel on the air for one week and he did a great job at doing just that.

Meanwhile, I understand that Ferguson's humor is not for everyone, but he is a true fan of the shows and the channel and meant no disrespect whatsoever, he was just having fun (in the same fashion he entertains on his CBS late night talk show). If you took the time to listen to the recorded sit down I had with him (recorded back in the spring and then broadcast last week), you would have clearly heard that even though he does not know all the series, he loves the shows on the channel All in good fun, okay?

 Anyway, it is great to be back and here are a few photos from my weeklong family trip to Colorado;

Greg, Kenny and Craig did a great job holding down the fort while you were gone. I don't think anyone meant any disrespect to them either, at least I hope not. My hubby and I were out driving today, listening to your interview with Craig. We were enjoying it thoroughly and sat at our destination in the car to hear the end. Then we popped into the Vienna Hotdog Factory here in Chicago and enjoyed a few Chicago dogs. What a great afternoon!!!!

BTW, your trip pics look wonderful, hope you are all rested and ready for action!

Hi, Greg! Welcome "home." I'm actually glad you took some time off even though I missed you. And from these wonderful pictures, it looks like you got some much-needed rest. I hope you and "the girls" (your wife and daughters) all had a terrific time.
I had no complaints about Kenny and Craig. I listened to the interview with Craig and I came to appreciate his humor better. It's very dry and droll; you have to really LISTEN and he makes you think for a minute before you react. And Craig knew a lot about the programs. I enjoyed most of his comments (since nothing is 100 percent, I may have found something I didn't like but since I don't remember what that was, I won't dwell on it).
I lied - I have one complaint about Kenny and Craig and it's this: THEY WEREN'T YOU. That's my only complaint. But since not even YOU can be in 2 places at once, they did a fine job and are a great substitue.
I'm only sorry you didn't get to Waukegan! I was hoping for news about Jack.
You left before I could THANK YOU for the Ray Bradbury birthday commemorative, especially "Zero Hour." I'm a bit THICK - I didn't realize until the commemorative that "ZH" had another surprise for me --- John Dehner was the narrator! Oh, how nice that was.
So welcome back, dear Greg! You did well with the substitutes you chose but, as I said, there's only one YOU!
The pictures, by the way, are breath-taking. I had the great privilege of going to Wyoming in 1993 and it was absolutely beautiful and so different fom the East where I live. Thank you for sharing Colorado with us but I'm glad you're back! God bless! Rosemary

Greg, I hope you had a great vacation. The location looked fantastic. As a ham radio operator I would have had an antenna strung up and working folks at that altitude.

The other folks did a great job, but it was like listening to the Great Gildersleeve without hearing Harold Peary's voice!

Hi! Brian is right, Greg - you do look like a Mountain Man. Loved the inside of your house - it's beautiful. Jeremiah is right, too: I turned on the radio at midnight today and I heard your voice! You might think it put me to sleep but it didn't --- I was so happy you were back even though Kenny and Craig were terrific.

I also took off last week. First week off in 10 years! That's what happens when you are self employed. I drove about 1300 miles and enjoyed listening to your station without it fading out. I LOVE XM Radio! It made the miles dissolve away. And, I liked knowing that you were also taking some time off to be with your family.

Hey gang,

No posts have been removed, so if you had one MIA, it was not intentional. Not sure what might have happened.

Lana, remember to check the schedule page directly for the upcoming schedule, that is where it ends up first. I put it there yesterday (Monday). I will create a detailed post probably this evening.

My post was lost in space....I guess my Halloween joke about Batman & Robin with Greg and Kenny in the leading roles is lost forever.....Mr. Ferguson gets the role of Commissioner Gordon.

I didn't mind too much Mr. Ferguson, but perhaps I'm used to British humor. Perhaps next time we could hear from some stars of the shows who are still with us, such as Alan Young

Welcome back! Your colleagues did you justice while you were relaxing. I really enjoyed your sit down with Craig. You had a rare opportunity to laugh and share that joy with us, your show's fans. I'm sure your budget has its limits, but the idea of having some of the stars of the past shows on, is intreguing. It might really work as lead ins for some of their performances, say especially those they found fun or interesting. Say one or two guest stars per week, might just add a breath of fresh air to the airways. Phil

What's worse than the Judy Canova show you ask? Judy Canova with a horrible canned laugh track. If you put that show back to back with an Abbott and Costello episode I'd have to start stocking my truck with air sick bags. Can't turn that junk off quick enough.

The owners of those shows are not allowing them on satellite radio. Unless they change their stance we can't legally play them on the channel.

Hi, Greg.. welcome home. Glad you could get some time to relax. You were missed however, the "gang" did a good job filling in for you while you were gone. You have us spoiled and no one can fill your shoes--you were missed, and your replacements took good care of us faithful listeners of yours. Take care and thanks for a job well done. Often times I sit in amazement at the stats you throw out at us... you are a wealth of information. Thanks for a job well done. Again..welcome home.. d

I barely heard part of the comment you made about the Lone Ranger not being played. How long do we have to wait before the program comes back? Also I think it also effects the Green Hornet?

I was so caught up with missing the Lone Ranger that it appeared that I forgot my manners. Sorry. We did miss you. You do a fabulous job. Anyone elses voice is just not the same. Also someone had asked about the show before but I didn't read anything before my post. My mistake. But do you have any idea how long it will be before we get the shows back? Obviously the owners don't listen to the channel or they would know how bad our withdrawels are. Is it a legal matter or are they just SELFISH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
