We surely enjoy you blog, Greg. We have been XM subscribers for over 6 years. Channel 164 is our favorite. Your history on each of the vintage radio shows is almost as enjoyable as the episodes.
Would it be possible to relate info on the musicians on those old shows?
Please keep up the great work. Thanks, Jack Wood (1938)...

Lawrence Dobkin was one of radio's most prolific actors who turned his talents over to directing episodic TV (Seaway, Magnum, P.I., etc.).

Hi, Gang! Great sked this week. Love Katina Paxinou; remember this play from last year. Also love Phantom of the Opera and this week's "Frontier Gentleman." And I'm with everyone else about Greg's info on the shows. Never a day goes by that I don't learn something when I listen to 164 and Greg. As Albert Camus once said - "if you stop learning, you stop living." I guess we're all headed for immortality! Smile Smile Thanks, as always, Greg, for the great work and thanks everyone for the interesting blogs, comments, greetings, etc.
PS: THANKS, GREG, FOR AIRING "THE HORN BLOWS AT MIDNIGHT" this week. I shall record this; despite the ongoing joke about how "bad" this movie was, I actually enjoyed it on radio (I've never seen the movie). And I'll always be grateful to you, Greg, for all the Jack Benny shows you air. I believe he is my favorite comedian.

I almost forgot, Gang - mark your calendars --- Sept. 27 is William Conrad's birthday --- he would be 89 years old. I hope Greg plans a slam-dunk week for the great golden-throated Mr. Conrad --- there are so many great productions in which he stars or has a supporting role - and that's not even including "Gunsmoke."
Also, Greg, thanks for pix of Lauren Bacall and of Larry Dobkin. Like 99 percent of Americans, I know of Miss Bacall. However, I'm ashamed to say I'm not nearly as familiar with Mr. Dobkin. The only "Star Trek" I've ever really liked is the original so I never saw him in ST: TNG. I'm not plugging, by the way, for Radio Spirits but the company is offering the Old Time Radio calendar. There's an offer --- buy so much and get the calendar for free. I don't care if I have to pay for it --- it's a real gem!

Greg,

Did you hear about a big screen version of the Lone Ranger? With Johnny Depp as Tonto?

From Yahoo! Entertainment

"Depp will also play Tonto in a big-screen adaptation of "The Lone Ranger," Cook said."

I like Pirates but I fear for this adaptation....

Let me this also

Depp: Lone Ranger should be a fool
In a recent interview with Vanity Fair magazine, Johnny Depp speaks publicly for the
first time about the Lone Ranger movie project. In it, he says the Lone Ranger should
be a fool.
The article says, “Now the 46-year-old actor is considering offers to play Tonto as a
shrewd man behind the legend in a remake of ‘The Lone Ranger.’
‘Tonto needs to be in charge,’ says Depp, who is part Cherokee Indian. ‘The Lone
Ranger should be a fool, a lovable one, but a fool nonetheless.’”

Movie date pushed back to 2012
According to IMDB.com, the release of the Lone Ranger movie has been pushed back
to 2012.

Listen to you a lot. Enjoy the shows, a lot of memories hearing some of them. I have Sirius and like it. I have a question. One of my very favorite shows when young was the Amos & Andy Show. I have noticed that there are none being replayed. Why. Is it because we have to be Political Correct or what. No I am not a racist just because I loved the show and still do. I could have cared less what color they were, or were protrayed, I just was entertained and laughed a lot. It was the same when they got on TV. Again one of my favorite shows. Wish you could play some of them

Hi, Gang! Make sure to listen to "Phantom of the Opera" - I just heard it and it was marvelous! Susannah Foster's singing was wonderful and Basil Rathbone's performance as the tormented Clauden was terrific. The man could have read the phonebook and I'd love it.
You're right about "Vic & Sade," Greg - either you "get it" or you don't. I don't yet but I'll make a concerted effort. After all, last year, I didn't "get" Phil Harris and "Remley"; now I coulnd't imagine a month without them. Fred Allen and "The Bickersons" still aren't my cup of tea; will just have to keep listening.
Also, loved hearing "The Horn Blows at Midnight" again. Tell me, is God being played by Claude Rains? It sounds like Claude and his is another voice I really love. I'm a fool for a sexy voice.

To Larry Yount ----- I have DVD's of the "Amos and Andy" shows and they are absolutely hilarious. Yes, they make lots of fun of AA's so they probably will never be aired in any way.

Haven't looked but they are probably available somewhere all DVD's are.

First off, I just want to say I am a HUGE fan of these old shows. Secondly thanks Greg for all the additional information as well as the pictures. It's always great when you can attach a face to the voice and also recognize most of these actors from later work in either movies or TV.
Keep up the great work. This is the reason I have satalite radio

Those pictures and old fashioned posters bring back memories. The quality of these is far superior than the stuff that gets cranked out today, probably because most of these were created by hand, a lost art for sure.
