Here are the links for the schedule for February 21st to February 27th, 2010.

Sirius 118 XM 164 PDF Version and the Excel Version or the direct link to the page HERE

As is our annual tradition we honor Elizabeth Taylor on this week of her birth (Feb 27th, 1932) buy bringing back an hour long Lux Radio Theatre version of "National Velvet" (co-starring a now 89 year old Mickey Rooney) as well as a half hour Cavalcade of America episode; "I, Mary Peabody."

Other birthday tributes include one for the versatile Mason Adams, Robert Young, composer Frederick Steiner (This Is Your FBI), Dane Clark (Crime and Peter Chambers), Jim Backus (cast member on the Alan Young Show) and Larry Gelbert (wrote for Bob Hope later for TV's M*A*S*H and the film Tootsie).

We also have John Wayne in a radio version of the US Cavalry picture, 'She Wore A Yellow Ribbon" and yet another Yours Truly, Johnny Dollar Marathon.

Great group of photos this week....

After 4+ years I know have an issue. A few times per week the eastern time block of 6am - 8am repeats at 4pm - 6pm. That leaves east coast commuters to have the same block from 7-8am and 5-6pm in the SAME day.... I thought it was me but I guess not...

Thanks,

Michael - NE Ohio us

Michael,

Are you sure? Just last week I changed the schedule to eliminate such occurrences. Checking this week and next weeks' schedules I don't see any repeating in the East Coast commute times.

I've mentioned this in passing before..Something along the lines of what Michael said..If I listen very much during the week, I always seem to end up late in the week at the same programs ive already heard earlier in the week..Never fails..Seriously Greg, thanks for all you do and have a good week..

Michael,

Yes sorry - Tuesday and Fridays have been altered with that exeption as the 6 to 8 comes back from 4 to 6. It will continue for now, so you'll have to find another channel either coming or going - the other days have been altered and there will be more tinkering to come, but not right away - the inventory is still too tight.

For those who drive, I can appreciate how the repetitions can get annoying. But I find them helpful for planning purposes. If I like a show, I want to know when it's on and am happy to see it's on several times - and different times during the week.
My main problem right now is a technical one. We have the main radio in my father's office. He put it all together and most of the time it's fine but lately, the radio keeps cutting in and out and it drives me crazy. I adjust the little box, the antenna, etc., and it still cuts out. I don't know if it's my setup or the satellite but there are times I want to throw the whole business out the window. Does anyone have any ideas as to how to fix and STOP this permanently? It really is annoying and it's driving me absolutely crazy!
Also, if the station isn't cutting out, then a local station or 2 (a college station and a mom-and-pop Haitian station) cuts in to "my station" for a few seconds, then "my station" returns. I'd like to know why this happens and how to stop this, too.

Since there are literally dozens of different types of Satellite Receivers, fixing the problem with one is much different with the other. Mine is the second one that came out, SP-R2. I find that it might start cutting out and I have to go outside, it's attached to my house eaves, and raise it back up an inch where it was sagging. Depending on where you are located, mine is supposed to point North.

If you think it's pointing where it's supposed to, the antenna's are relatively cheap and you might try getting another. There are plenty on ebay.

Re: Schedules. The only minor complaint I have is occasionally I miss the first showing of a certain show, the next showings are in the middle of the night, only one left in the day time. But if I do miss it I figure it will play again in 6 months.

Like Greg says, those "Pat Novak for Hire" are superb. Wish Jack had made more of them.

Hi, Greg, Another nice schedule this week. I noticed that the online "Program List" on the XM Radio Classics site does not list the dates for any of the episodes. Thank goodness most of the dates (but not all) are on the printed schedule. Hoping this is a one-time anomaly! Having the dates is so helpful. You see how you've spoiled us! Thanks for all you do.

Actually, that is not true - on the XM Radio Classics page program schedule - just click the series title and you get both broadcast date and episode title.

Hi Greg!
I just wanted to say I couldn't get thru the day without your channel. I drive a school bus & have Sirius run thru my radio all day as I am in the bus for 8 hours or more if I have field trips in the evenings & I hardly ever listen to anything else! I don't care how you do your schedules or what you play just keep on doing it & never stop. You make my life so much nicer by making time fly by with Joe Friday, Fibber McGee, The Shadow, & all the shows! They're all new to me so it's great fun just to hear them all. And your little trivia blips about the actors & shows are great! Thank you so much for all you do!

Hi Rosemary. My radio has started doing the same as yours, cutting in and out and I never move my antenna. I thought maybe it is because it has been cloudy more often this year and maybe it would stop.

Exterior antennas start to lose their seal against the weather over time. I have noticed the same thing and my attenna is over 6 years old and has been on various cars for roughly 150,000 miles.

I think we've had our system for more than 2 years. I also live a block away from the ocean. I suspect it's the satellite. I can go for days or even weeks without the 1st kind of cutout (silence) but I always get the interference from the local yokle stations that have maybe 3 listeners and transmit from a church basement.
I heard the Phil Harris episode where he and Remley babysit. That's the 1st episode of Phil Harris I'd ever heard and it really was FUNNY.
I'm hoping our printers will be fixed so I can print the schedule. My notebook is empty without them. What I do is read the sked and then go to the shows I like. Then I go to www.radiogoldindex.com to find out the exact episode. Sometimes Greg tells us but most of the shows are without episodes.
I'm happy to see Greg is bringing back "I, Mary Peabody" and "National Velvet" to celebrate Elizabeth Taylor's birthday.
More later Take care everybody and "Happy Trails" to all you drivers and commuters and "Good night, Mrs. Calabash, wherever you are."

Dear Greg

I've not been an Al Jolson fan, but the more I hear--the more I like. Tonite you played him w "the Sonz" (?) Jimmy Durante and I totally enjoyed the whole thing. Mr Jolson sang "Without a song, there 'ain't' no love at all" and it was totally beautiful ...so simple yet so soulful, it demanded my attention.

Thank you for all the different stuff you put on-the-air. I am so glad you have love your work!

I told another XM listener today (not exposed to 164 yet!) about the time you did Inner Sactum's Chicken Heart and then did Bill Cosby's rendition of his experience listening to that show. I never realized that was the basis of Mr Cosby's Chicken Heart story--my whole family LOVED that Bill Cosby story way back when. Dragnet is always a favorite: appreciate hearing all the continued segments at once. Appreciate same on Superman and especially Johnny Dollar! till later truly yours lh

I have a suggestion for those of you who are seeing duplicate shows in the same time frame. Why not record the ones you do like and play them when the duplicate shows are on. This works wonders for me when I'm travelling. This way, I always get to listen to the shows I like, when I like.

GREG, what happened to the days when you used to play mostly the vintage ads after midnight? That was a wonderful treat for those of us who leave our radios on most of the night (eh Rosemary!! :o) It seems we're back to people screaming about being in debt, the IRS, prostate problems and nighttime urination habits??!! Could we go back to vintage ads after midnight please?

Margo Lane ca

2/25/2010 8:02:48 PM

Lana

Yes Margo, those ads are very annoying especially when they are played over and over. I also record my favorite shows so that I can listen to them at my convenience. There may be some listeners that do not have a device that can record. I would encourage them to invest in one, if they can. That way you never miss your favorites.

Rosemary, I agree with you that the satellite must be out of sync. I am not getting a strong signal this week either. I thought that it may be the weather but since we are hearing a lot of complaints, it must be something other than weather related.

Lana us

2/25/2010 10:27:28 PM

Rosemary, Elberon, NJ

Hello to the "Lovely Margo Lane" and it's great to hear from you again. Same to you, Lana. Unfortunately, as far as advertising is concerned, Greg's hands are tied. He has to do what they tell him because it is they that helps pay the salaries of station employees. So, while we may enjoy and prefer vintage ads, they don't pay whereas current ads do. The other half that pays the station employees' salary is subscriptions.
What would be good is if the advertising staff could do these ads a bit more tastefully. I don't like hearing about private anatomical problems - prostate enlargement, ED and urination trouble and "smokeless" smoking gadgets. Calk me old-fashioned but, to me, those things are private and do not belong all over the airwaves.
The other ads that really bake my beans are the "work from home" ads and the gold ads. We know they're both only after your $$$ and probably are scams. I wish companies would apply truth in advertising. You bet your sweet bippie we'd hear far fewer blatantly false ads like this if the truth were applied and if stations wouldn't buy ads that are obvious lies. The stations take the ads because they are a source of revenue. But it doesn't say much for anyone who takes an ad, knowing it's a lie, because of the $$$ it brings in. That is unconscionable and it smacks of a lack of integrity.
I wish the technical people would fix whatever is causing the cut-outs and local station cut-ins. I'm big on recording programs but I've stopped doing it because of the intereference and cut-outs. They last only a second or two but every second counts and if those things continue, it means I'm not getting my full money's worth and then I'd have to complain to the higher authorities.

Just popping in to say hi to Rosemary and Lana! Missed "talking" with you both, have been very busy lately.

I realize that Greg's hands are tied but if we all put our opinion forth, the station might (and I know it's a big might) take notice. It's a shame that those are the ads that pay the bills -- I don't know which is worse, those ads or infomercials.

Take care girls! Talk with you again soon.

PS: No signal interference in my part of southern AB, Canada. I'm almost directly north of Great Falls, Montana.
